Group Counseling

The Counseling Center offers group counseling designed to help students achieve personal growth and development, discuss interpersonal issues, and address concerns unique to their environment.  Come by Atkins 158 or call 704-687-2105 to sign up.

 

Fall 2009 Groups

Interpersonal Counseling Groups

Groups require 1/2 hour pre-group meeting with group leaders.  Contact the Counseling Center to make an appointment

Group I - Mondays 2:00-3:30 p.m.

Group leaders: Libby Malone, Ph.D., &  Jacque Perry, M.S.Ed.

Group II - Tuesdays 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Group leaders: Karen Muehl, Ph.D. & Elizabeth Sellers, M.A.

Group III - Thursdays 3:30-5:00 p.m.

Women Survivors of Sexual Trauma - Mondays 3:40-4:55 p.m.

Being BLACK Enough: What does it mean to be a Black Student at UNC Charlotte - Mondays, 1:00-1:50 p.m., October 19 - November 9

This discussion group is open to ALL students of African descent attending UNC Charlotte.  We will explore contemporary issues facing African/African American students (undergraduate and graduate) at a predominantly White university.  Topics will include Black on Black student interactions, male-female interpersonal relationships, academic issues, racism, sexism, and homophobia in the community.

Peace of Mind - Thursdays 1:00-1:50 p.m., October 22 - November 19

Are you feeling stressed out, anxious or overwhelmed by emotions?  This group will help you gain greater emotional awareness, improve concentration, learn relaxation skills, and provide you with coping strategies to deal with life's difficulties.

Group Leaders:  Susan Funk, Psy.D., & Ashley Boester, M.A.

Building Healthy Relationships - Tuesdays  2:00-2:50 p.m., October 27 - November 17

Participants will explore the dynamics of relationships, communication styles, and ways to make relationships more rewarding. 

Group leaders:  Sophia Parrow, MSW, LCSW  & Elizabeth Sellers, M.A.

Moving On:  Recovering From a Breakup - Wednesdays, 1:00-1:50 p.m., October 28 - November 18

After your romantic relationship ended, did you have a hard time letting go?  This 4-week workshop is designed for individuals who would like to learn ways to cope with a breakup and move forward  in a positive direction.  All types of endings and relationships are welcome in this group.
