Practicum Training Program |

Supervised practica at the Counseling Center are available
to students in both the
Clinical/Community and Counseling Education master's degree programs. These practica
are available for two consecutive semesters beginning in the fall
semester.
Under supervision
practicum students are provided with interviewing, counseling, and assessment
opportunities commensurate with their skills and experience. Students
will be involved in the treatment of a wide range of presenting concerns
including emotional and situational concerns, developmental issues, career
decision-making, interpersonal concerns, and academic difficulties.
Eligibility
- Practica are available
to students who have completed the following prerequisites:
- Successful completion of
either Counseling Theory (CLG 6100) and Counseling Techniques (CLG
6110), or Psychological Treatment (PSY 6150) or the equivalent of theses
courses.
- Successful completion of
an undergraduate or graduate course in tests and measurements.
- It is also desirable
that candidates have acquired the knowledge encompassed by courses in
abnormal psychology, personality, human development, and ethics.
To apply
for a Counseling Center
practicum, students should submit:
- A copy of the
departmental application
form.
- A brief resume of
education and counseling related experiences not included on the
departmental application.
- A statement of
professional goals and goals for the practicum/internship.
- A letter of
recommendation from a departmental faculty member.
Applications will be accepted beginning in January
for the following fall
semester. Positions will be filled by the end of June.
